I’d reckon most everyone has at least one friend who has had a fairly profound influence on the course their life took. Thomas Hash is that friend for me. We met in a roundabout way, kind of drifting around each other for a year or so, with friends and partners recommending we become aquatinted with one another due to our similar up bringing and love of the bicycle. Eventually he ended up selling me my first single speed mountain bike (my first mountain bike at all, really). That bike would end up being the genesis of our friendship. Him selling me that bike led to us riding together and him introducing me to the true glory and zen of riding a single speed. I fell head over heels for that old boat anchor of a bike. It was my main ride when I first met Matt and Cheech and started working at Crust. Not long after starting at Crust, Matt offered me the opportunity to design my signature single speed mountain bike frame that is now known as the Wombat. The Wombat is a dream come true for me, and I have my doubts it would have happened if it wasn’t for Thomas. In my eyes, the Wombat is just as much his signature bike as it is mine. When the production run showed up, Thomas immediately built up a Wombat of his own. Donned in HRC Red paint, and Gold rims, just like the old Hondas of yesteryear that we share an affinity for. He absolutely nailed the build out on this bike, I couldn’t have done it better myself, in fact I didn’t. It’s perfect.
