Thereabouts Enve Bombora

Our buddy Ben at Back Alley Bike Repair in Seattle built out this ride or die Enve Bombora in the Thereabouts colorway. I’ll let Ben wax poetic about his build:

My Inspo – Timmy (watchu talking bout) Willis & Inimitable Katie Smyth

The Journey towards this dream bike began years and years ago with Elephant Cycles NFE, twas juuust a bit too noodley for singletrack, but cemented my affections to big tires like the Schwalbe Thunder Burts for mixed terrain rides. After that, I spent 2 years getting to know the Endpoint Hunter Gatherer. Again, a bit unbalanced between front and rear clearances, and bit too steep of headtoob angle, which made for dicey singletrax but a competent bikepacker off road tourer (ed. we don’t say the B word here.) Next was a used Breadwinner Komorebi, a rigid 29’er. Brilliant trail and bikepacking off road camping bike, not so great road manners.

I then had a chance to built up the all steel Bombora for my dearest Katie and saw what appeared to be The Light. Loaded her’s up with Thunder Burt 2.25″ shoes and saw her fly thru roads, portals, trails, bikepacking off road adventures and nimbly road variations. When I saw the Enve cabroné fork version come online and felt the time was right to pull down a frameset for myself. Tim Willis nabbed the off white Thereabouts color and I had procured the Crust pink. The idea of Katie and I having the same color bike in our garage gave me much skepticism, so I was having a bunch of conversations with a good friend about a custom paint job. Mister Willis caught wind and simply stated, “I like the pink version, too”. So we traded, and that’s how I ended up with the Albino Bombora.

Tim prompted me to explore Di2, because that’s how he was going on his project. I knew I was gonna love the E*Thirteen cassette because Katie keyed me into it, and it goes everywhere. Took a shot at the Hope chompers because they look dope and enhance trail prowess. Now, after about 2k miles, and a set of Thunder Burts, I’m dancing with the Race King’s. As my pal Ol Grumpy pointed out, “Of course Continental would name a tire Race King.” Mildly offensive and wicked fast & light. In summery, very light, very fast bike 10/10 would buy again.
