Not sure how many of these I have done but if yo are not familiar The LA Tourist Race is a series of 3 races a year (started in 2019) out of Lets Ride Cyclery in Burbank. They all suck but are fun at times sometimes lol. JK..if your fast and have strong climbing legs its all good, if your slow you just gotta look at it as a long day out on your bike. Im in the latter group but I for sure like to try and finish, preferably before dark, but at least finish and not scratch or dnf or blow it, or whatever you want to call it.
Thomas got his number custom painted the day before, he also made that bag himself before we tried the Trans San Gabriel race.
A couple other Crusts – the Bombora belongs to Addison who we rode with on the last climb. He ended up descending a different way than us in hopes of more fun but ended up on some shitty single track so he finished just a bit after us. Was dope seeing him roll back into the shop though.
So 5 books are hidden in the mountains and on Tuesday before the race you get emailed coordinates of the books that you have to route to and rip out the page that matches your race number. There is also a smaller version where you only have to get 3 pages. I think about 200 people end up riding on the day of the race.
Yesterday Thomas and I finished in just under 10 hours. I honestly thought we would do a liiiiittttllle better but all good. The winner finished in I think half that time (not joking).
Above is Kent. I think he has won every single one of these except for the one he didnt enter. Its wild. He rolled up yesterday morning at 6:45 when I took this photo I joked asking if he just did it. So, we got our first book page and on the way to number two and here comes Kent riding it clockwise on his way to his last page at 10:30am. Thats fucked.
Pinetos Trail was 100% the best part of the day, I could have easily went home happy after that one. Wish it was a little longer but damn…then the water crossing after just tied the room together. Altogether a pretty dope day just over 70mi and 7600 feet.
